Dr Paasch’s work primarily centers around wave energy to help build renewable energy systems, ranging from designing devices to harvest energy from the ocean to assessing their survivability in the harsh conditions they have to function in. The ME wave energy research is part of the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Center. Very multi-disciplinary, with mechanical engineers, ocean engineers, coastal engineers, electrical engineers, and marine biologists working to harvest energy from ocean waves in an environmentally sound manner.
His secondary passion is automotive engineering, specifically Formula SAE where grad students work on not only leading the design, but also implementing processes for global collaboration.
